Celebrating the 10th anniversary of the Ice Bucket Challenge, this event will also feature ice bucket challenges for the brave souls who don’t mind getting soaked to help raise further proceeds!

A Letter from Richard Dickmann
Owner of Smoke Justis
Hello,
My name is Richard Dickmann, and I am the founder of Smoke Justis in Covington, Kentucky. As a close friend of someone currently dealing with ALS, John Brucato, the founding coach of the Bellarmine men's and women's swim teams, I’ve seen first-hand how ALS impacts families.
After stepping down from his role in 2023 due to his battle with ALS, John is taking things day by day, but each day is a challenge. In 2005, I lost a good friend to ALS after a seven-year fight, so for me, this disease has hit very close to home. Over the past 30 years, I have had countless friends, relatives and customers who have had loved ones also fight this horrible disease.
I am a local business owner of both Smoke Justis and Dickmann's Sports Barn in Fort Wright, and I have decided to help raise awareness and money to find a cure for this progressive neurodegenerative disease. Smoke Justis is excited to announce its new signature event, Q4A Cure, benefiting The ALS Association which will take place 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday, June 1 to honor those battling the disease and raise funds for ALS research.
Named after a local baseball urban legend, Walter “Smoke” Justis, Smoke Justis features smoked meat and smooth bourbon. So, it seemed to be a natural fit to build this event around three very important B’s: Baseball, BBQ, and bourbon. Hosted the same weekend as Lou Gehrig Day, the goal of Q4A Cure is to bring people together to raise money for ALS - the disease that does not currently have a cure.
Online reservations for an BBQ meal will be the key component to this event. Guests will be able to enjoy an expertly crafted BBQ feast that will pair beautifully with the amazing view of the Cincinnati Skyline and the Roebling Bridge. With live music to liven up the event, Q4A Cure will also be celebrating the tenth anniversary of the Ice Bucket Challenge.
Made famous in 2014, the Ice Bucket Challenge invites the community to pour ice water over a person's head to promote awareness of the disease. During Q4A Cure, brave (and willing!) attendees will have the opportunity to get soaked live at the event to raise even more money for the cause.
We're leaning on the community for help to sponsor, make a reservation, or donate on our event page. Thank you for your support on behalf of the past, present and future ALS patients who hope for a cure someday, soon.
Richard Dickmann
