What is Que4Care?

We're back and more fired up than ever! For the THIRD year in a row, Que4Care is rallying our community to stand alongside those courageously fighting ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis). And we couldn't do it without YOU!

From May 1st through June 2nd, every dollar raised goes directly to Cincinnati's incredible "Triple Play" organizations - three hometown organizations making a real, tangible difference in the lives of ALS patients and their families right here in our region: Always Lifting Spirit, Chair Force 1 Foundation, and Operation Ramp it Up.

More info on these incredible teams below.

This week-long campaign culminates in a lineup of amazing community events bringing together BBQ lovers, baseball fans, and bourbon connoisseurs - all united for an incredible cause. Check out the full calendar of events below!

Together, we've already raised over $100,000 for our neighbors battling ALS - and this year, we're keeping our fundraising goals ambitious. These three extraordinary organizations deliver life-changing mobility support and heartfelt encouragement to patients and caregivers who need it most.

Let's make Year 3 our biggest yet. Are you in?

The Organizations You’re Supporting!

ALWAYS LIFTING SPIRIT

Always Lifting Spirits improves the quality of life for Greater Cincinnati residents living with ALS. The organization was founded in honor of Jeff Weber, who passed away in August 2013. Though ALS claimed his life, Jeff never lost his optimistic spirit or his deep desire to help others facing the same devastating illness.

Chair Force 1 Foundation

Chair Force 1 provides wheelchair accessible vans and essential mobility equipment to families in the Greater Cincinnati area living with ALS and other neurological diseases, helping them stay mobile, connected, and independent when it matters most.Nulla lectus ante, consequat et ex eget, feugiat tincidunt metus. Donec eget risus diam. Phasellus sodales massa malesuada tellus fringilla, nec bibendum tellus blandit.

Operation Ramp it Up

Operation Ramp It Up builds and installs custom wheelchair ramps for individuals with mobility challenges across the Greater Cincinnati region and beyond. By removing barriers right at people's doorsteps, the program restores independence and dignity, because everyone deserves the freedom to come and go as they please.

How to Get Involved!

Sippin 4 Lou Happy Hours!

For four days, beginning May 26th, at happy hour in the Bourbon Lounge at Smoke Justis, customers will raise a glass to the Triple Play Initiative while raising more awareness and money for local patients.

Every dollar spent from 4-7pm will go to these great organizations. In addition to this, One hundred commemorative bottles of a special barrel pick of New Riff bourbon will be sold and every dollar will also be going to the Triple Play Initiative.

Que4Care BBQ Street Party - Main Event!

Saturday, May 30
11AM - 8PM

The third annual QUE4CARE Street Picnic will take place on May 30th. Through the month of May, Smoke Justis will sell meals online to raise money for ALS patients.

Purchase a meal and join the hundreds of people on Court Street next to Smoke Justis to eat, drink and listen to live music on Saturday, May 30th.

Signature Bourbon Dinner!

On Monday June 1, Smoke Justis will have yet another one of their signature bourbon dinners.

This one is for the cause. If you like bourbon and great food, this ones for you. Once again, every dollar raise will go to help local ALS Patients.

Walk 4 ALS to GABP!

Each year, MLB and the Cincinnati Reds honor ALS Patients with Lou Gehrig Day at the Ballpark on June 2nd. On this day we remember one of the greatest players in baseball history, Lou Gehrig. Lou Gehrig was the first high profile patient, stricken with ALS.  Lou’s name would be forever remembered in association with ALS and is commonly known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease.

Smoke Justis has purchased a block of 400 tickets to this game and will sell them to those people who want to honor those who are currently battling ALS or those who have passed.

All of these ticket purchasers are asked to meet outside of Smoke Justis to make a sign with the name of the person that they are honoring on this walk. Everyone will then begin the honor walk across the Roebling Bridge to the Ballpark for the Lou Gehrig game. Last year, this walk was impactful and we expect this year will be no different. Sit together for the cause and hold your sign high for those loved ones that have had to deal with this horrible disease.

A letter from Richard Dickmann

Founder of Smoke Justis

Dear Friends,

My name is Richard Dickmann, and I am the founder of Smoke Justis in Covington, Kentucky. As a close friend of the late John Brucato, the founding coach of the Bellarmine men's and women's swim teams, I've seen first-hand how ALS impacts families.

After stepping down from his role in 2023 due to his battle with ALS, John passed away last year - a tremendous loss to all who knew him. His courage and spirit in the face of this devastating disease left a lasting impression on everyone around him.

Back in 2005, I lost another dear friend after their seven-year battle with ALS. Over the past 30 years, I've watched too many friends, family members, and customers see their loved ones struggle with this devastating disease.

As the owner of both Smoke Justis and Dickmann's Sports Barn, I've decided to do what I can to help those in our community with ALS – and I need your support.

I'm proud to announce that for the third year, Smoke Justis is hosting our community fundraiser, Que4Care: Supporting Those with ALS, with all proceeds directly supporting local ALS patients in our tri-state area.

Our week-long event includes a few events:

Sippin' 4 Lou Happy Hours
BBQ Street Party
Signature Bourbon Dinner
Walk4ALS to GABP

Since Smoke Justis was named after local baseball legend Walter "Smoke" Justis and specializes in smoked meat and bourbon, we're bringing together three perfect elements: Baseball, BBQ, and bourbon. The event coincides with Lou Gehrig Day to raise money for ALS – a disease that still has no cure.

The centerpiece of our fundraiser is our BBQ Street Party on Saturday, May 30th. You can purchase meal tickets on our website.

It's going to be an incredible day of community fun with amazing food, live music with 3 awesome bands, and views of the Cincinnati Skyline and Roebling Bridge.

Also, on Monday, June 2, we're gathering 300+ people to walk over the Roebling Bridge to Great American Ballpark with hand-written signs honoring those who have fought and are currently fighting the disease.

Imagine 300+ people crossing the John A. Roebling Bridge to the ballpark, carrying signs honoring loved ones affected by ALS - a powerful show of solidarity with current fighters and those we've lost, while raising awareness for finding a cure.

Afterwards, we're filling up sections 141-142 (right field) as the Reds take on the Royals at 7:10 on MLB's Lou Gehrig Day.

Please consider helping by sponsoring, making a reservation, or donating directly through our event page. Your support means everything to past, present, and future ALS patients who are hoping for a cure.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart,

Richard Dickmann
