What is Que4Care?
For the second year in a row, we’re stepping up to the plate to support those impacted by ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis) with our 2nd Annual Que4Care fundraiser, formerly known as “Q4A Cure.”
From May 27 to June 2, this week-long community event will bring together barbecue lovers, baseball fans and bourbon connoisseurs to raise vital funds for ALS care, equipment and advocacy. See the full calendar of events below.
Last year, you helped us raise over $30,000 for the ALS Association, which largely supports ALS Research. This year, we have two important goals: first, to directly provide assistance to local ALS patients in our tri-state community, and second, to support the critical work of three remarkable organizations: Always Lifting Spirits, Chair Force 1 Foundation, Operation Ramp it Up.
These amazing organizations provide mobility support and emotional encouragement for local ALS patients and caregivers, and they need your help!
Thank you to those who have donated directly!

A Letter from Richard Dickmann
Owner of Smoke Justis
Dear Friends,
My name is Richard Dickmann, and I am the founder of Smoke Justis in Covington, Kentucky. As a close friend of someone currently dealing with ALS, John Brucato, the founding coach of the Bellarmine men's and women's swim teams, I’ve seen first-hand how ALS impacts families.
After stepping down from his role in 2023 due to his battle with ALS, John is taking things day by day, but each day is a challenge.
Back in 2005, I lost another dear friend after their seven-year battle with ALS. Over the past 30 years, I've watched too many friends, family members, and customers see their loved ones struggle with this devastating disease.
As the owner of both Smoke Justis and Dickmann's Sports Barn, I've decided to do what I can to help those in our community with ALS – and I need your support.
I'm proud to announce that for the second year, Smoke Justis is hosting our community fundraiser, Que4Care: Supporting Those with ALS (formerly Q4A Cure), with all proceeds directly supporting local ALS patients in our tri-state area.
Our week-long event includes:
Sippin' 4 Lou Happy Hours
Street Party Picnic
Walk4ALS
Since Smoke Justis was named after local baseball legend Walter "Smoke" Justis and specializes in smoked meat and bourbon, we're bringing together three perfect elements: Baseball, BBQ, and bourbon. The event coincides with Lou Gehrig Day to raise money for ALS – a disease that still has no cure.
The centerpiece of our fundraiser is our BBQ Street Party on Saturday, May 31st. You can purchase meal tickets on our website at the link below.
It's going to be an incredible day of community fun with amazing food, live music with 3 awesome bands, and views of the Cincinnati Skyline and Roebling Bridge, plus ice bucket challenges!
Also, on Monday, June 2, we're gathering 200+ people to walk over the Roebling Bridge to Great American Ballpark for a pre-game party with John Driskell Hopkins of Zac Brown Band! Afterwards, we're filling up section 144 (right field) as the Reds take on the Brewers at 7:10 on MLB's Lou Gehrig Day.
This event shows solidarity with ALS patients, both current fighters and those we've lost, while raising awareness for finding a cure. Imagine 200+ people crossing the John A Roebling Bridge to the Ballpark, carrying signs honoring loved ones affected by ALS.
Please consider helping by sponsoring, making a reservation, or donating through our event page. Your support means everything to past, present, and future ALS patients who are hoping for a cure.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart,
Richard Dickmann
